MODS is a half-day preschool based on the idea that teaching young children must focus around the whole child – the intellectual, emotional, and physical aspects of a person. In order for children to learn in school and become lifelong learners, they must interact with their environment (people, places, and things) and interpret their own experiences. For students at MODS – cooking, block building, dramatic play, lab working, painting, outdoor play, gardening, nature walks, and fieldtrips (to name a few) are regarded as basic life experiences from which understanding and knowledge can be constructed.
We proudly promote an environment in which children will become independent, confident, life-long learners with a strong sense of self. We strive to offer a positive, child-centered preschool experience that fosters a love of learning and a strong involvement of a nurturing community. In each child, we strive to cultivate autonomy, a sense of belonging, respect for one’s self and for others, and an enthusiasm for world exploration. The policies in this handbook support and protect the values that we, the Mighty Oak Day School community and staff, have come to rely on.
